Quickquid.co.uk’s 2,356% typical APR is wrong

I’m on something of a mission.

I was watching the TV earlier today and saw quickquid.co.uk’s advert offering ‘payday’ loans at 2356% typical APR.

I thought it was wrong, so I started this Facebook Group.

The more join, the more we may be able to inifluence both regulators and lenders to insist on a fair rate for consumers who are clearly coping with small, short-term debt.

Let’s see how we do!

So here’s my Twelve Links of Christmas

Followers of my tweets may have noticed their twittering calm punctuated by the occasional #12linksofChristmas over the past couple of weeks.

These are likeable links that I’ve found enjoyable, enlightening or just plain interesting over the past 12 months.

Humbled by its apparent popularity, I’ve been asked to publish the Twelve Links in their entirety (with apologies for the inclusion of the bit.ly links, but speed is of the essence on Christmas Eve). So here they are; all in one place.

To readers of my blog — because there are some (!) — consider this my way of saying ‘thank you’ for paying attention to my sporadic posts from time to time in 2009. Next year, I plan to be a little bit more frequent in my postings.

Whoosh..!

There is a big risk that I will stand accused of being unhealthily geekish with my latest weekendy clickable, but I’ll put it down to the last vestiges of boyhood fascination with SPACEROCKETS.

It’s a link to NASA’s video footage of the launch of the latest Shuttle mission; but it’s footage from video cameras fixed on the solid booster and main engine rockets.

That means you can hitch a ride on the launch, go up into space, and then fall back down into the ocean.

I think the images are brilliant.

And now for something completely different

After a break of a few days it seems that it is high time to publish a new post and, on the basis that I’ve tagged it with ‘Something for the weekend’, I’ve gone for new comedy.

Every now and then, you discover a comedy gem that deserves the biggest, bestest, possible audience.

Ladies and gentlemen, here is Superego — a comedy podcast created in the United States that is pitch-perfect for a UK following.

After all, if it was created by UK-based — rather than US-based — comic geniuses, then maybe Superego would cite their inspiration as the Ammando Iannucci School of On The Hour, The Day Today and Brass Eye.

One small tweet for Man…

860849939_372fe710c8It’s amazing how much Apollo Eleven’s legendary mission to the moon continues to capture the imagination of people.

For those of us who weren’t quite born — or were too young to remember — it’s hard to imagine what it must have been like to follow the Lunar mission from the TV and radio coverage on Earth.

Twitter may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the idea of tweeting the progress of the mission in real time is simply brilliant.

That’s just what @apolloeleven is broadcasting: a stream of tweets that replicates communication between Mission Control and the commander module in real-time on the 40th anniversary of the event.

It’s a great application of Twitter; I just love the way technology like that can be applied to bring historical events to life.
